Day 24

Wednesday.  Today is the day to go see Jessica at Advanced Physical Medicine in Yorkville.  The same place I did PT for my left knee.  I'm scheduled for an evaluation with her today, and we'll probably get started tomorrow.  The doctor sent an order with me for 5 times a week for two weeks, and then I think 3 times a week for 4 weeks.

We had the follow up visit with the surgeons assistant yesterday, Rob.  I really like him.  He doesn't seem as rushed, and answers our questions.  He said that I must have sensitive nerves, as an explanation for the pain.  Kym really got a laugh out of that.  I'm sensitive, who knew....

I cut way back on the pain meds yesterday.  The ride in the car was very uncomfortable, as usual.  I have to rub all over on the knee to make it bearable.  It seemed a little better after we left the appointment, maybe it's just in my head, I don't know.  It was actually the best that I have felt for the whole time I was thinking.

Sleep seemed maybe a little better, I have been using ice off and on during the night to help with the pain, and not taking so many pills.  I'm trying to save them for the PT, and maybe the pharmacist won't complain so much when I go for a refill.

Well, that went well.  It turns out that my knee measures about the same as the left one did when we did the evaluation on the left one before PT started in June.  The range of motion is about the same too.  She told me to try doing more activity at home.  Try the bike, even if I can't get it to go around yet.  Walk around the block, do some lunges, do some squats.  It does feel good to move, and do things.  Pretty much everything still hurts, walking, standing, sitting, etc.  If I had a pool, swimming would probably be helpful, that's what everyone always recommends.

I just came back from looking at a house with Reaghann and Kym, that was fun.  Climbing old house stairs, walking around the yard, inspecting an old house with them.  When we got home, I decided to go for a walk.  Nothing fancy or exciting, I just went around our block a couple times, and walked around the yard.  Of course we don't have a nice, flat yard like everyone else.  It rolls up and down, all over the yard.  There are some pretty steep drop offs, at least steep to me.  Not a riding mower kind of yard for sure.  The only trouble with going down the inclines now, is the lack of muscle tone in my legs.  The bones don't hurt anymore!  When this whole bad knee thing started, one of the first things I noticed was going down ramps, or inclines, was really hard and painful.  I think it was a trip to Silver Springs with the family, going down the hill to the first spring is pretty long and steep.  I remember that being difficult, and the beginning of a long slow decline.  Now I think I'm on the way back up.  It feels good to be going the right way now, it's been a long time.
